President Tarja Halonen visited Kosovo on 8 September 2015

Former President of Finland Tarja Halonen(President from 2000 until 2012) visited Kosovo on 7 to 9 September. During her visit President Halonen held key-note speeches regarding education and forensic medicine and missing persons in two conferences organized by two EU projects led by Finnish experts.

The conference Inclusive and Quality Education for All brought together decision makers and different stakeholders in Kosovo's educational sector to discuss quality and inclusive education. President Halonen stressed the importance of inclusive education as she stated that the future of any country is built on the basis of education quality. She also emphasized the quality of teacher's training and life-long learning.

In her speech President Halonen emphasized that the future of any country is build on the basis of education quality.

The conference Missing Persons – Way Forward raised awareness on how forensic medicine contributes to the realization of human rights and to the legal protection of all citizens. President Halonen emphasized the legal importance of forensic investigations as well as the rights of the families to know the truth about the disappearance of their loved ones in order to rebuild their lives and to look forward.

President Tarja Halonen met with important partners of Finland and political leaders of Kosovo. President Halonen and President Atifete Jahjaga discussed the current developments in Kosovo and Kosovo's European perspective. They also discussed human rights with particular emphasis on the fate of the missing persons and bringing justice to the women who have suffered as victims of war. President Halonen emphasized that it is essential to come to terms with the past in order to develop Kosovo in the future.

President Tarja Halonen also met with Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Bajrami. President Halonen and Minister Bajrami discussed the current state of Kosovar education and Minister Bajrami thanked President Halonen for the support that Kosovo is receiving from Finland. He stated that through various exchange programmes teachers and students from Kosovo could receive the best practices from Finland.
