On 11th of March, the Regional Women’s Lobby for Peace, Security and Justice in South East Europe (RWLSEE) organized in Pristina the regional conference “Kosovo’s women working together for European integration” as part of the project “Women together in support to Brussels Agreement”.
The conference aimed to create a platform by establishing a direct dialogue and communication between women leaders and decision makers from all three minority communities of Gracanica, Novo Brdo and Shtrpce including women from North and South Mitrovica, with representatives of government institutions in Kosovo, MPs, community mayors, stakeholders, decision makers and civil society representatives. In addition, the event was attended by women politicians and members of parliaments of RWL countries of South-east Europe: Bosna & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
The discussion was mainly focused on the role of women in peace process with the goal of enhancing the understanding of Brussels Agreement and its impact in people’s lives as well as strengthening multi-ethnic understanding and cooperation in reaching EU integration. Women of all communities had a chance to express their concerns and problems they face in their respective municipalities, such as economic, social as well as political issues.
Ambassador of the Embassy of Finland, Mrs. Anne Huhtamäki in her speech thanked the Regional Women’s Lobby for their valuable work and praised women of all communities for their courage and will in bringing peace, security and stabilization in their country. She stressed the significance of dialogue and women’s role in creating the conditions necessary for inclusive peace and tolerance. “Only dialogue leads to trust and cooperation”, read Ambassador’s Huhtamäki statement. Ms. Edita Tahiri, Chair of RWL and Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue emphasized the great role of women in the process of integration, building peace and strengthening inter-ethnic cooperation in Kosovo and the need of having more women part of decision-making bodies.
A great input to the roundtable gave the RWL Steering Committee members from the region as Mrs. Memnuna Zvizdic, Director of NGO "Zene Zenama" from Bosna and Herzegovina, Mrs. Irina Pockova, Member of Woman chapter of SDA political party from Macedonia, Mrs. Nada Drobnjak, Montenegrin MP and Head of Parliamentary Commission for Gender Equality, Mrs. Sonja Biserko, Director of Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia as well as Mrs. Flora Macula, Head of UN Women in Kosovo.
This event marked the final activity of the project “Women together in support to the Brussels agreement” supported by the Embassy of Finland in Pristina through Fund for Local Cooperation Programme.
